A mentor talks about helping young people reach their full potential.

When I moved to Gloucestershire 18 months ago from London, I was searching for a job online and came across a volunteering position with Young Gloucestershire’s mentoring programme and knew I had to be a part of it.
I had worked as a Youth Worker in a previous role and since moving to the UK, I had really missed supporting young people to reach their full potential. The training and support I have received from YG has been amazing, I never feel as if I can’t ask questions or raise concerns.
I have had the opportunity to support two young people so far and am looking at supporting more in the future. It is so important for these young people to have someone that they can trust and confide in, someone who is non-judgemental and impartial. All it takes is an hour per week of your time, which is nothing but that hour for a young person can have such a huge impact and make such a difference.
The mentoring programme has allowed me to work alongside some amazing people and I’ve always felt like part of the wider YG team. Mentoring is such a wonderful way to share your skills and knowledge and give back to a community. Thanks YG for allowing me to be a part of your family.
