Support the mental and physical wellbeing of children, young people and their families in Gloucestershire

Ellie

Ellie spent the last year in hospital being treated for anorexia.

“It was horrible living in hospital – I did not have any friends and I had to teach myself in order to take my GCSE’s and A-Levels. Although I passed my exams, I know I could have done better if I had been in school.

“I was so pleased to come out of hospital but it was hard to know what to do. I had missed enrolment for college and I just wanted something to ease myself back in, nothing that would be too demanding.

“Really I underestimated what I would get out of my time at YG. I have made friends and found my confidence. The staff were great they helped accommodate my eating habits. The other people in my group were really understanding. It has felt brilliant to be able to focus on positive things rather than constantly talking about eating and nutrition. I loved trying things I had never done before especially volunteering and going away on residential which I never would have done with out YG’s support.

“It was never about getting a job for me, but my work experience helped me think about a career in the health and fitness industry. Now I am looking forward to starting a course in holistic therapy and I hope to go on and study Biomedical Science at Aston University in the future.”
